Actively Nurturing Girls through Education, Love, Internship and Charity

Projects & Events

Our team consistently develops and executes projects and events aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable and high-risk girls and young women. Here are a few programmes we have executed in the past or are currently working on right now.

I Can Sprout Wings (ICSW) Empowerment Breakfast

The I Can Sprout Wings Empowerment Breakfast is a bi-annual event that aims to provide less-privileged girls and young women, from various homes and rehabilitation centres, with the empowering experience of meeting and connecting with influential women from corporate Jamaica and hearing their stories. This instills the girls with hope and the belief that they too can overcome their struggles and achieve success.

Labour of Love Career Empowerment

The Labour of Love program empowers teenage moms and pregnant teenagers to pursue their career goals. Since May 2022, we've engaged with 21 teenage moms and 14 pregnant teenagers, offering guidance on resume writing, interview skills, and exposure to creative industry professionals.

The program also includes a unique ALS Boutique Pop-Up Shop - with the support of Dress for Success Ja, Women for Women Jamaica - Thrift & Give, and All Things in Common (ATIC) Shop My Closet - where participants use their workshop purchasing token to select free items for themselves and their babies, enhancing their confidence through their shopping autonomy. This usually leaves the girls with a very positive and inspiring experience.

In 2024, we are looking to work with another group of teen moms, and welcome your support through in-kind donations and partnerships.

ALS Girls Home Tour

The ALS Girls Home Tour, birth out of the first "I Can Sprout Wings" Empowerment Breakfast, aimed to foster lasting connections with girls in residential care facilities across Jamaica. Initially planned for 7 homes, the tour expanded to include all 10 girls' homes over two years (2019-2021). The intimate sessions, lasting 2 to 3 hours, provided an opportunity for influential women and other stakeholders to engage with the girls personally, understand their stories, and share empowering messages.

Notable guests on these tours include fitness trainer, Patrice J White; Christian lifestyle guide and author, Amoy Lawrence; and Miss Jamaica Festival Queen 2018, Ackera Gowie; among others. Local organizations also donated gifts, including food items, clothes, art and school supplies, and two brand-new computers, accessories, and headsets, to aid the girls’ learning during COVID lockdowns.

The official end of the ALS Girls Home Tour in December 2022 led to the creation of a one-week Spiritual Enrichment Week Summer program. Although no longer a scheduled event, the society continues to accept invitations to various girls' homes, relishing the opportunity to make a positive impact.

Spiritual Enrichment Week

After learning about the challenges experienced by the administrators of the Granville Child Care Facility in Trelawny in acquiring undergarments for girls who often arrived there without any clothing, we decided to help.

Our team visited the girls’ home in January 2020, where we engaged the girls in various activities, provided care packages, and introduced a pop-up shop where each girl could choose a bra that fits them, and a brand-new panty from our large selection, boosting their confidence. Since then, the society has been actively involved in Granville's Spiritual Enrichment Week, contributing to workshops, talks, and group process therapy sessions using various forms of creative and performing arts.

In July 2022, the society took full responsibility for program development, acquiring supplies, organizing speakers, and executing the program with a theme centered around Ephesians 4:32, emphasizing #KindnessMatters. The week-long event reached over 50 girls, fostering spiritual and communal benefits. The success of the 2022 Spiritual Enrichment Week was made possible by the New Wave Celebrity Closet Fundraiser in December 2021.

Looking ahead, the society plans to anchor their Summer 2024 program on the theme, “Masterpiece”, celebrating the idea that "we are God's masterpiece”, reflected in Ephesians 2:10 NLT.
